08~001|001 RUTH` Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehemjudah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons. 08~001|001 RUT` It came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a man of Bethlehem in Judah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.
08~001|002 RUTH` And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehemjudah. And they came into the country of Moab, and
08~001|002 RUT` And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Kilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehem in Judah. And they came to the country of Moab, and remained there.
08~001|003 RUTH` And Elimelech Naomi's husband died; and she was left, and her two sons.
08~001|003 RUT` And Elimelech, Naomi's husband, died; and she was left with her two sons.
08~001|004 RUTH` And they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelled there about ten years.
08~001|004 RUT` And they took wives of the women of Moab; the name of one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth; and they dwelled there about ten years.
08~001|005 RUTH` And Mahlon and Chilion died also both of them; and the woman was left of her two sons and her husband.
08~001|005 RUT` And both Mahlon and Kilion died; and the woman was bereft of her two sons and her husband.
08~001|006 RUTH` Then she arose with her daughters in law, that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that the Lord had visited his people in giving them bread.
08~001|006 RUT` Then she arose with her daughters-in-law, to return from the country of Moab; for she had heard in the country of Moab that the Lord had visited his people and given them bread.
08~001|007 RUTH` Wherefore she went forth out of the place where she was, and her two daughters in law with her; and they went on the way to return to the land of Judah.
08~001|007 RUT` So she went forth out of the place where she was, and her two daughters-in-law with her; and they went on the way to return to the land of Judah.
08~001|008 RUTH` And Naomi said to her two daughters in law, Go, return each to her mother's house: the Lord deal kindly with you, as you have dealt with the dead, and with me.
08~001|008 RUT` And Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, Go, return each of you to her mother's house; the Lord deal kindly with you, as you have dealt with the dead, and with me.
08~001|009 RUTH` The Lord grant you that you may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband. Then she kissed them; and they lifted up their voice, and wept.
08~001|009 RUT` The Lord grant you that you may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband. Then she kissed them; and they lifted up their voice, and wept.
08~001|010 RUTH` And they said to her, Surely we will return with you to thy people.
08~001|010 RUT` And they said to her, No, we will return with you to your people.
08~001|011 RUTH` And Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: why will you go with me? are there yet any more sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?
08~001|011 RUT` And Naomi said, Turn back, my daughters; why will you go with me? are there yet any more sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?
08~001|012 RUTH` Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have an husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should have an husband also to night, and should also bear sons;
08~001|012 RUT` Turn back, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have a husband. If I should say, I have hope, even if I should have a husband tonight, and should bear sons.
08~001|013 RUTH` Would you tarry for them till they were grown? would you stay for them from having husbands? nay, my daughters; for it grieveth me much for your sakes that the hand of the Lord is gone out against me.
08~001|013 RUT` Would you wait for them till they were grown? would you, for them, refrain from having husbands? no, my daughters; for it grieves me much for your sakes that the hand of the Lord is gone out against me.
08~001|014 RUTH` And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave to her.
08~001|014 RUT` And they lifted up their voice, and wept again; and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law; but Ruth held fast to her.
08~001|015 RUTH` And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back to her people, and to her gods: return you after thy sister in law.
08~001|015 RUT` And she said, Behold, your sister-in-law is gone back to her people, and to her gods; go back you after your sister-in law.
08~001|016 RUTH` And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave you, or to return from following after you: for whither you goest, I will go; and where you lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
08~001|016 RUT` And Ruth said, Do not entreat me to leave you, or to keep from following you; for wherever you go, I will go; and where you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God my God.
08~001|017 RUTH` Where you diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part you and me.
08~001|017 RUT` Where you die, will I die, and there will I be buried; the Lord do so to me, and more also, if even death parts me from you.
08~001|018 RUTH` When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking to her.
08~001|018 RUT` When she saw that she was determined to go with her, she stopped speaking to her.
08~001|019 RUTH` So they two went until they came to Bethlehem. And it came to pass, when they were come to Bethlehem, that all the city was moved about them, and they said, Is this Naomi?
08~001|019 RUT` So the two went until they came to Bethlehem. And it came to pass, when they came to Bethlehem, that all the city was stirred because of them, and they said, Is this Naomi?
08~001|020 RUTH` And she said to them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me.
08~001|020 RUT` And she said to them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara; for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me.
08~001|021 RUTH` I went out full and the Lord hath brought me home again empty: why then call you me Naomi, seeing the Lord hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me?
08~001|021 RUT` I went out full, and the Lord has brought me back empty; why then do you call me Naomi, seeing the Lord has testified against me, and the Almighty has afflicted me?
08~001|022 RUTH` So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter in law, with her, which returned out of the country of Moab: and they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barley harvest.
08~001|022 RUT` So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabite, her daughter-in-law, with her, who returned from the country of Moab; and they came to Bethlehem at the beginning of the barley harvest.
08~002|001 RUTH` And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband's, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz.
08~002|001 RUT` And Naomi had a relative of her husband's, a man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz.
08~002|002 RUTH` And Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said to her, Go, my daughter.
08~002|002 RUT` And Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of grain after him in whose sight I shall find favor. And she said to her, Go, my daughter.
08~002|003 RUTH` And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers: and her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the realitives of Elimelech.
08~002|003 RUT` And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers; and she happened to a part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was a relative of Elimelech.
08~002|004 RUTH` And, behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said to the reapers, The Lord be with you. And they answered him, The Lord bless you.
08~002|004 RUT` And, behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said to the reapers, The Lord be with you. And they answered him, The Lord bless you.
08~002|005 RUTH` Then said Boaz to his servant that was set over the reapers, Whose damsel is this?
08~002|005 RUT` Then said Boaz to his servant who was set over the reapers, Whose maiden is this?
08~002|006 RUTH` And the servant that was set over the reapers answered and said, It is the Moabitish damsel that came back with Naomi out of the country of Moab:
08~002|006 RUT` And the servant who was set over the reapers answered and said, It is the Moabite maiden who came back with Naomi from the country of Moab.
08~002|007 RUTH` And she said, I pray you, let me glean and gather after the from the morning until now, that she remained a little in the house.
08~002|007 RUT` And she said, I beg you, let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves; so she came, and she has continued from morning until now, scarcely spending any time in the hut.
08~002|008 RUTH` Then said Boaz to Ruth, Hearest you not, my daughter? Go not to glean in another field, neither go from hence, but stay here fast by my maidens:
08~002|008 RUT` Then said Boaz to Ruth, Do you not hear, my daughter? Do not go to glean in another field, nor go away from here, but stay here close to my maidens.
08~002|009 RUTH` Let yours eyes be on the field that they do reap, and go you after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch you? and when you art athirst, go to the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn.
08~002|009 RUT` Let your eyes be on the field that they reap, and go after them; have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch you? and when you are thirsty, go to the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn.
08~002|010 RUTH` Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said to him, Why have I found grace in yours eyes, that you shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?
08~002|010 RUT` Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said to him, Why have I found favor in your eyes, that you should take notice of me, seeing that I am a stranger?
08~002|011 RUTH` And Boaz answered and said to her, It hath fully been shewed me, all that you hast done to thy mother in law since the death of yours husband: and how you hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come to a people which you knewest not heretofore.
08~002|011 RUT` And Boaz answered and said to her, It has been fully told to me, all that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband; and how you have left your father and your mother, and the land of your birth, and have come to a people which you did not know before.
08~002|012 RUTH` The Lord recompense thy work, and a full reward be given you of the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings you art come to trust.
08~002|012 RUT` The Lord will recompense your work, and a full reward shall be given to you by the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.
08~002|013 RUTH` Then she said, Let me find favour in thy sight, my lord; for that you hast comforted me, and for that you hast spoken friendly to yours handmaid, though I be not like to one of yours handmaidens.
08~002|013 RUT` Then she said, Let me find favor in your sight, my lord; for you have comforted me, and spoken kindly to your maidservant, though I am not one of your maidservants.
08~002|014 RUTH` And Boaz said to her, At mealtime come you hither, and eat of the bread, and dip thy morsel in the vinegar. And she sat beside the reapers: and he reached her parched corn, and she did eat, and was sufficed, and left.
08~002|014 RUT` And at the mealtime Boaz said to her Come here, and eat of the bread, and dip your morsel in the vinegar. And she sat beside the reapers; and he passed to her parched grain, and she ate, and was satisfied, and left.
08~002|015 RUTH` And when she was risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, Let her glean even among the sheaves, and reproach her not:
08~002|015 RUT` And when she rose to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, Let her glean even among the sheaves, and reproach her not.
08~002|016 RUTH` And let fall also some of the handfuls of purpose for her, and leave them, that she may glean them, and rebuke her not.
08~002|016 RUT` And let fall also some of the handfuls on purpose for her, and leave them, that she may glean them, and rebuke her not.
08~002|017 RUTH` So she gleaned in the field until even, and beat out that she had gleaned: and it was about an Ephah of barley.
08~002|017 RUT` So she gleaned in the field until the evening, and she beat out what she had gleaned; and it was about an ephah of barley.
08~002|018 RUTH` And she took it up, and went into the city: and her mother in law saw what she had gleaned: and she brought forth, and gave to her that she had reserved after she was sufficed.
08~002|018 RUT` And she took it up, and went into the city; and her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned; and she brought out and gave to her what she had left over after being satisfied.
08~002|019 RUTH` And her mother in law said to her, Where hast you gleaned to day? and where wroughtest you? blessed be he that did take knowledge of you. And she shewed her mother in law with whom she had wrought, and said, The man's name with whom I wrought to day is Boaz.
08~002|019 RUT` And her mother-in-law said to her, Where have you gleaned today? and where have your worked? blessed is he who took notice of you. And she told her mother-in-law with whom she had worked, and said, The man's name with whom I worked today is Boaz.
08~002|020 RUTH` And Naomi said to her daughter in law, Blessed be he of the Lord, who hath not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead. And Naomi said to her, The man is near of kin to us, one of our next kinsmen.
08~002|020 RUT` And Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, Blessed be he by the Lord, who has not abandoned his loving kindness to the living and to the dead. And Naomi said to her, The man is a relative of ours, one of our close relatives.
08~002|021 RUTH` And Ruth the Moabitess said, He said to me also, You shalt keep fast by my young men, until they have ended all my harvest.
08~002|021 RUT` And Ruth the Moabite said, He also said to me, You shall keep close to my young men, until they have ended all my harvest.
08~002|022 RUTH` And Naomi said to Ruth her daughter in law, It is good, my daughter, that you go out with his maidens, that they meet you not in any other field.
08~002|022 RUT` And Naomi said to Ruth her daughter-in-law, It is good, my daughter, that you go out with his maidens, that you should not be molested in any other field.
08~002|023 RUTH` So she kept fast by the maidens of Boaz to glean to the end of barley harvest and of wheat harvest; and lived with her mother in law.
08~002|023 RUT` So she kept close to the maidens of Boaz to glean to the end of the barley harvest and of the wheat harvest; and lived with her mother-in-law.
08~003|001 RUTH` Then Naomi her mother in law said to her, My daughter, shall I not seek rest for you, that it may be well with you?
08~003|001 RUT` Then Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, My daughter, shall I not seek a home for you, that it may be well with you?
08~003|002 RUTH` And now is not Boaz of our realitives, with whose maidens you wast? Behold, he winnoweth barley to night in the threshingfloor.
08~003|002 RUT` Now is not Boaz, with whose maidens you were, our relative? Behold, he winnows barley tonight in the threshing floor.
08~003|003 RUTH` Wash thyself therefore, and anoint you, and put thy raiment upon you, and get you down to the floor: but make not thyself known to the man, until he shall have done eating and drinking.
08~003|003 RUT` Wash yourself therefore, and anoint yourself, and put your garment upon you, and go down to the threshing floor; but do not make yourself known to the man, until he has finished eating and drinking.
08~003|004 RUTH` And it shall be, when he lieth down, that you shalt mark the place where he shall lie, and you shalt go in, and uncover his feet, and lay you down; and he will tell you what you shalt do.
08~003|004 RUT` And it shall be, when he lies down, that you shall mark the place where he shall lie, and you shall go in, and uncover his feet, and lie down; and he will tell you what to do.
08~003|005 RUTH` And she said to her, All that you sayest to me I will do.
08~003|005 RUT` And she said to her, All that you say to me I will do.
08~003|006 RUTH` And she went down to the floor, and did according to all that her mother in law bade her.
08~003|006 RUT` And she went down to the threshing floor, and did according to all that her mother-in-law had told her.
08~003|007 RUTH` And when Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of corn: and she came softly, and uncovered his feet, and laid her down.
08~003|007 RUT` And when Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of grain; and she came softly, and uncovered his feet, and laid herself down.
08~003|008 RUTH` And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and turned himself: and, behold, a woman lay at his feet.
08~003|008 RUT` And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was startled, and turned over; and, behold, a woman lay at his feet.
08~003|009 RUTH` And he said, Who art you? And she answered, I am Ruth yours handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt over yours handmaid; for you art a near kinsman.
08~003|009 RUT` And he said, Who are you? And she answered, I am Ruth your maidservant; spread your skirt over your maidservant; for you are next of kin.
08~003|010 RUTH` And he said, Blessed be you of the Lord, my daughter: for you hast shewed more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as you followedst not young men, whether poor or rich.
08~003|010 RUT` And he said, Blessed be you to the Lord, my daughter; for your last loyal kindness is greater than the first one, because you have not gone after young men, whether poor or rich.
08~003|011 RUTH` And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to you all that you requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that you art a virtuous woman.
08~003|011 RUT` And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to you all that you ask, for the whole city of my people knows that you are a worthy woman.
08~003|012 RUTH` And now it is true that I am thy near kinsman: howbeit there is a kinsman nearer than I.
08~003|012 RUT` Although it is true that I am your close relative, there is a relative closer than I am.
08~003|013 RUTH` Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform to you the part of a kinsman, well; let him do the kinsman's part: but if he will not do the part of a kinsman to you, then will I do the part of a kinsman to you, as the Lord liveth: lie down until the morning.
08~003|013 RUT` Remain this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will do the duty of the next of kin for you, well; let him do the kinsman's duty; but if he will not do the duty of a kinsman to you, then I will do the duty of a kinsman for you, as the Lord lives; lie down until the morning.
08~003|014 RUTH` And she lay at his feet until the morning: and she rose up before one could know another. And he said, Let it not be known that a woman came into the floor.
08~003|014 RUT` And she lay at his feet until the morning; and she rose up before one could recognize another. And he said, Let it not be known that a woman came into the threshing floor.
08~003|015 RUTH` Also he said, Bring the vail that you hast upon you, and hold it. And when she held it, he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her: and she went into the city.
08~003|015 RUT` Also he said, Bring the veil that you have upon you, and hold it. And when she held it, he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her; and she went into the city.
08~003|016 RUTH` And when she came to her mother in law, she said, Who art you, my daughter? And she told her all that the man had done to her.
08~003|016 RUT` And when she came to her mother-in-law, she said, Who are you, my daughter? And she told her all that the man had done to her.
08~003|017 RUTH` And she said, These six measures of barley gave he me; for he said to me, Go not empty to thy mother in law.
08~003|017 RUT` And she said, He gave me these six measures of barley; for he said to me, Do not go empty to your mother-in-law.
08~003|018 RUTH` Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until you know how the matter will fall: for the man will not be in rest, until he have finished the thing this day.
08~003|018 RUT` Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until you know how the matter will fall; for the man will not rest, until he settles the matter this day.
08~004|001 RUTH` Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat him down there: and, behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spoke came by; to whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside, and sat down.
08~004|001 RUT` Then Boaz went up to the gate, and sat down there; and, behold, the next of kin of whom Boaz had spoken came by; to whom he said, Hey there, such and such a one! turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside, and sat down.
08~004|002 RUTH` And he took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, Sit you down here. And they sat down.
08~004|002 RUT` And he took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, Sit down here. And they sat down.
08~004|003 RUTH` And he said to the kinsman, Naomi, that is come again out of the country of Moab, sells a parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech's:
08~004|003 RUT` And he said to the next of kin; Naomi, who has returned from the country of Moab, is selling a parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech's.
08~004|004 RUTH` And I thought to advertise you, saying, Buy it before the inhabitants, and before the elders of my people. If you wilt redeem it, redeem it: but if you wilt not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know: for there is none to redeem it beside you; and I am after you. And he said, I wi
08~004|004 RUT` And I thought I would tell you of it, and say, Buy it in the presence of the inhabitants, and in the presence of the elders of my people. If you will redeem it, redeem it; but if you will not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know; for there is none to redeem it besides you; and I come after you. And he said, I will redeem it.
08~004|005 RUTH` Then said Boaz, What day you buy the field of the hand of Naomi, you must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.
08~004|005 RUT` Then said Boaz, on the day that you buy the field from the hand of Naomi, you must buy it also from Ruth the Moabite, the wife of the dead, to restore the name of the dead to his inheritance.
08~004|006 RUTH` And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar mine own inheritance: redeem you my right to thyself; for I cannot redeem it.
08~004|006 RUT` And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I harm my own inheritance; take my right of redemption for yourself; for I cannot redeem it.
08~004|007 RUTH` Now this was the manner in former time in Israel concerning redeeming and concerning changing, for to confirm all things; a man plucked off his shoe, and gave it to his neighbour: and this was a testimony in Israel.
08~004|007 RUT` Now this was the custom in former times in Israel concerning redeeming and concerning exchanging; to confirm a transaction a man took off his shoe, and gave it to his neighbor; and this was the manner of attesting in Israel.
08~004|008 RUTH` Therefore the kinsman said to Boaz, Buy it for you. So he drew off his shoe.
08~004|008 RUT` Therefore the kinsman said to Boaz, Buy it for yourself. And he took off his shoe.
08~004|009 RUTH` And Boaz said to the elders, and to all the people, Ye are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech's, and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's, of the hand of Naomi.
08~004|009 RUT` And Boaz said to the elders, and to all the people, You are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech's, and all that was Kilion's and Mahlon's, from the hand of Naomi.
08~004|010 RUTH` Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place: you are witnesses this day.
08~004|010 RUT` And also Ruth the Moabite, the wife of Mahlon, have I bought to be my wife, to restore the name of the dead to his inheritance, so that the name of the dead shall not be cut off from among his brothers, and from the gate of his place; you are witnesses this day.
08~004|011 RUTH` And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. The Lord make the woman that is come into yours house like Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel: and do you worthily in Ephratah, and be famous in Bethlehem:
08~004|011 RUT` And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. The Lord make the woman that has come into your house like Rachel and like Leah, who both built the house of Israel. May you prosper in Ephratah, and be famous in Bethlehem.
08~004|012 RUTH` And let thy house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar bare to Judah, of the seed which the Lord shall give you of this young woman.
