39~001001 MALACHI` The burden of the word of the Lord to Israel by Malachi.
39~001001 MALAKI` The burden of the word of the Lord to Israel by Malachi.
39~001002 MALACHI` I have loved you, saith the Lord. Yet you say, Wherein hast you loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the Lord: yet I loved Jacob,
39~001002 MALAKI` I have loved you, says the Lord. Yet you say, How have you loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? says the Lord; yet I loved Jacob.
39~001003 MALACHI` And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.
39~001003 MALAKI` And I hated Esau, and laid waste his mountains and gave his heritage to the jackals of the wilderness.
39~001004 MALACHI` Whereas Edom saith, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places; thus saith the Lord of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, the border of wickedness, and, the people against whom the Lord hath indignation for ever.
39~001004 MALAKI` For Edom said: We are impoverished, but we will return and rebuild the desolate places. Thus says the Lord of hosts: They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and The people against whom the Lord has indignation for ever.
39~001005 MALACHI` And your eyes shall see, and you shall say, The Lord will be magnified from the border of Israel.
39~001005 MALAKI` And your eyes shall see, and you shall say, The Lord will be magnified beyond the border of Israel.
39~001006 MALACHI` A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the Lord of hosts to you, O priests, that despise my name. And you say, Wherein have we despised thy name?
39~001006 MALAKI` A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is my fear? says the Lord of hosts to you, O priests, who despise my name, and you say: How have we despised your name?
39~001007 MALACHI` Ye offer polluted bread upon mine altar; and you say, Wherein have we polluted you? In that you say, The table of the Lord is contemptible.
39~001007 MALAKI` You offer polluted bread upon my altar; and you say, How have we polluted you? In that you say, The table of the Lord is contemptible.
39~001008 MALACHI` And if you offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if you offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? offer it now to thy governor; will he be pleased with you, or accept thy person? saith the Lord of hosts.
39~001008 MALAKI` And if you offer the blind for sacrifice, is this not evil? And if you offer the lame and the sick, is this not evil? Offer it now to your governor, will he be pleased with you, or accept your person? says the Lord of hosts.
39~001009 MALACHI` And now, I pray you, beseech God that he will be gracious to us: this hath been by your means: will he regard your persons? saith the Lord of hosts.
39~001009 MALAKI` And now, I beg you, beseech God that he will be gracious to us; this has been your doing. Will he show favor to any of you? says the Lord of hosts.
39~001010 MALACHI` Who is there even among you that would shut the doors for nought? neither do you kindle fire on mine altar for nought. I have no pleasure in you, saith the Lord of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand.
39~001010 MALAKI` O, that were one among you who would shut the doors that you might not kindle fire on my altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you, said the Lord of hosts, nor will I accept an offering from your hand.
39~001011 MALACHI` For from the rising of the sun even to the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered to my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith the Lord of hosts.
39~001011 MALAKI` For, from the rising of the sun until it goes down, my name is great among the nations; and in every place incense is offered to my name, and a pure offering; for my name is great among the nations, says the Lord of hosts.
39~001012 MALACHI` But you have profaned it, in that you say, The table of the Lord is polluted; and the fruit thereof, even his meat, is contemptible.
39~001012 MALAKI` But you have profaned it, in that you say, The table of the Lord is polluted; and his fruit, his food, is contemptible.
39~001013 MALACHI` Ye said also, Behold, what a weariness is it! and you have snuffed at it, saith the Lord of hosts; and you brought that which was torn, and the lame, and the sick; thus you brought an offering: should I accept this of your hand? saith the Lord.
39~001013 MALAKI` And you said, Behold, what a weariness it is! And you snuffed at it, says the Lord of hosts; and you brought that which was torn, and the lame, and the sick; thus you brought an offering. Should I accept this from your hand? says the Lord.
39~001014 MALACHI` But cursed be the deceiver, which hath in his flock a male, and voweth, and sacrificeth to the Lord a corrupt thing: for I am a great King, saith the Lord of hosts, and my name is dreadful among the heathen.
39~001014 MALAKI` Let the deceiver be cursed, who has in his flock a male, and yet vows, and sacrifices to the Lord what is blemished; for I am a great king, says the Lord of hosts, and my name is feared among the nations.
39~002001 MALACHI` And now, O you priests, this commandment is for you.
39~002001 MALAKI` And now, O you priests, this commandment is for you.
39~002002 MALACHI` If you will not hear, and if you will not lay it to heart, to give glory to my name, saith the Lord of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because you do not lay it to heart.
39~002002 MALAKI` If you will not hear, and if you will not lay it to heart, to give glory to my name, says the Lord of hosts, I will send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings. Indeed I have cursed them already, because you do not lay it to heart.
39~002003 MALACHI` Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your solemn feasts; and one shall take you away with it.
39~002003 MALAKI` Behold, I will rebuke your seed, and spread dung upon your faces, the dung of your solemn feasts; and you will be taken away with it.
39~002004 MALACHI` And you shall know that I have sent this commandment to you, that my covenient might be with Levi, saith the Lord of hosts.
39~002004 MALAKI` And you shall know that I have sent this commandment to you, that my covenant might be with Levi, says the Lord of hosts.
39~002005 MALACHI` My covenient was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him for the fear where with he feared me, and was afraid before my name.
39~002005 MALAKI` My covenant was with him for life and peace; and I gave them to him for the fear with which he feared me, and was afraid before my name.
39~002006 MALACHI` The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity.
39~002006 MALAKI` The Torah of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips; he walked with me in peace and uprightness, and he turned many away from iniquity.
39~002007 MALACHI` For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts.
39~002007 MALAKI` For the priest's lips should guard knowledge, and they should seek the Torah from his mouth; for he is a messenger of the Lord of hosts.
39~002008 MALACHI` But you are departed out of the way; you have caused many to stumble at the law; you have corrupted the covenient of Levi, saith the Lord of hosts.
39~002008 MALAKI` But you have turned aside from the way; you have caused many to stumble in the Torah; you have corrupted the covenant of Levi, says the Lord of hosts.
39~002009 MALACHI` Therefore have I also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according as you have not kept my ways, but have been partial in the law.
39~002009 MALAKI` Therefore I have also made you contemptible and base before all the people, because you have not kept my ways, but have shown partiality in regard to the Torah.
39~002010 MALACHI` Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenient of our fathers?
39~002010 MALAKI` Have we not all one father? Has not one God created us? Why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers?
39~002011 MALACHI` Judah hath dealt treacherously, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah hath profaned the holiness of the Lord which he loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange god.
39~002011 MALAKI` Judah has dealt treacherously, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah has profaned the holiness of the Lord which he loved, and has married the daughter of a foreign god.
39~002012 MALACHI` The Lord will cut off the man that doeth this, the master and the scholar, out of the tabernacles of Jacob, and him that offereth an offering to the Lord of hosts.
39~002012 MALAKI` The Lord will cut off all living offspring from the tents of Jacob, from the man who does this, and from him who brings an offering to the Lord of hosts.
39~002013 MALACHI` And this have you done again, covering the altar of the Lord with tears, with weeping, and with crying out, insomuch that he regardeth not the offering any more, or receiveth it with good will at your hand.
39~002013 MALAKI` And this again you do: you cover the altar of the Lord with tears, with weeping, and with sighing, because he will not regard the offering any more, nor receive it with good will from your hand.
39~002014 MALACHI` Yet you say, Wherefore? Because the Lord hath been witness between you and the wife of thy youth, against whom you hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenient.
39~002014 MALAKI` And you say, Why is this so? Because the Lord has been witness between you and the wife of your youth, to whom you have been faithless, yet is she your companion, and the wife of your covenant.
39~002015 MALACHI` And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.
39~002015 MALAKI` And did not God make of you one flesh? So that one should have a spiritual kin? And what does that one flesh seek? A godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, that you do not be faithless to the wife of your youth.
39~002016 MALACHI` For the Lord, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covers violence with his garment, saith the Lord of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that you deal not treacherously.
39~002016 MALAKI` For to send her away is hateful, says the Lord, the God of Israel, and covering one's garment with violence, says the Lord of hosts; therefore take heed to your spirit, that you do not be faithless.
39~002017 MALACHI` Ye have wearied the Lord with your words. Yet you say, Wherein have we wearied him? When you say, Every one that doeth evil is good in the sight of the Lord, and he delights in them; or, Where is the God of judgment?
39~002017 MALAKI` You have wearied the Lord with your words. Yet you say: How have we wearied him? When you say, Every one who does evil is good in the sight of the Lord, and he delights in them; or, Where is the God of justice?
39~003001 MALACHI` Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom you seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenient, whom you delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts.
39~003001 MALAKI` Behold, I send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me; and the Lord, whom you seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, and the messenger of the covenant, whom you delight in, behold, he shall come, says the Lord of hosts.
39~003002 MALACHI` But who may stay the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appear? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap:
39~003002 MALAKI` But who may abide the day of his coming? And who shall stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner's fire, and like the washer's soap.
39~003003 MALACHI` And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer to the Lord an offering in righteousness.
39~003003 MALAKI` And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and refine them like gold and silver, that they may offer to the Lord an offering in righteousness.
39~003004 MALACHI` Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant to the Lord, as in the days of old, and as in former years.
39~003004 MALAKI` Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant to the Lord, as in the days of old, and as in former years.
39~003005 MALACHI` And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the Lord of hosts.
39~003005 MALAKI` And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the orphan, and who turn aside the foreigner from his right, and do not fear me, says the Lord of hosts.
39~003006 MALACHI` For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore you sons of Jacob are not consumed.
39~003006 MALAKI` For I am the Lord, I do not change; therefore you sons of Jacob are not consumed.
39~003007 MALACHI` Even from the days of your fathers you are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you, saith the Lord of hosts. But you said, Wherein shall we return?
39~003007 MALAKI` From the days of your fathers you have turned aside from my ordinances, and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of hosts. But you said, How shall we return?
39~003008 MALACHI` Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed me. But you say, Wherein have we robbed you? In tithes and offerings.
39~003008 MALAKI` Will man rob God? Yet you have robbed me. But you say, How have we robbed you? In tithes and offerings.
39~003009 MALACHI` Ye are cursed with a curse: for you have robbed me, even this whole nation.
39~003009 MALAKI` You are cursed with a curse; for you have robbed me, this whole nation.
39~003010 MALACHI` Bring you all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
39~003010 MALAKI` Bring all the tithes to the storehouse, so that there may be food in my house, and test me now with that, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open for you the windows of heaven, and pour for you an overflowing blessing.
39~003011 MALACHI` And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts.
39~003011 MALAKI` And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; nor shall your vine cast her fruit in the field before the time, says the Lord of hosts.
39~003012 MALACHI` And all nations shall call you blessed: for you shall be a delightful land, saith the Lord of hosts.
39~003012 MALAKI` And all nations shall call you blessed; for you shall be a land of delight, says the Lord of hosts.
39~003013 MALACHI` Your words have been stout against me, saith the Lord. Yet you say, What have we spoken so much against you?
39~003013 MALAKI` Your words have been strong against me, says the Lord. Yet you say, How have we spoken against you?
39~003014 MALACHI` Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the Lord of hosts?
39~003014 MALAKI` You have said: It is vain to serve God; and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the Lord of hosts?
39~003015 MALACHI` And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered.
39~003015 MALAKI` And now we call the arrogant happy; those who work wickedness prosper; even those who tempt God escape.
39~003016 MALACHI` Then they that feared the Lord spoke often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name.
39~003016 MALAKI` Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another; and the Lord listened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for those who feared the Lord, and who took heed of his name.
39~003017 MALACHI` And they shall be mine, saith the Lord of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spares his own son that serveth him.
39~003017 MALAKI` And they shall be mine, says the Lord of hosts, on that day which I appoint as my particular day; and I will spare them, like a man spares his own son who serves him.
39~003018 MALACHI` Then shall you return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.
39~003018 MALAKI` Then you shall return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him who serves God and him who does not serve him.
39~003019 MALAKI` For, behold, the day comes, it shall burn like an oven; and all the arrogant, and all who do wickedly, shall be stubble; and the day that comes shall burn them up, says the Lord of hosts, so that it will not leave them root nor branch.
39~003020 MALAKI` But to you who fear my name the sun of righteousness shall arise with healing in its wings; and you shall go forth leaping like calves from the stall.
39~003021 MALAKI` And you shall trample down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day that I shall do this, says the Lord of hosts.
39~003022 MALAKI` Remember the Torah of Moses my servant, which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.
39~003023 MALAKI` Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord.
39~003024 MALAKI` And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the land with a curse._
39~004001 MALACHI` For, behold, the day comes, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that comes shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
39~004002 MALACHI` But to you that fear my name shall the sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and you shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
39~004003 MALACHI` And you shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the Lord of hosts.
39~004004 MALACHI` Remember you the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded to him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.
39~004005 MALACHI` Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord:
39~004006 MALACHI` And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.
